Wedding Ideas and Stories

Please ask if you have questions about anything or would like a location or vendor referal:

For the Bride

Give yourself plenty of time to get ready and plan accordingly.

If you're having help with hair and make-up try to get a realistic gage of how long this will take on the day of your wedding. Most vendors like to give you the most for your money, some may say it will only take an hour but end up spending two or three hours.

When you have a trial make-up or hair appointment keep an eye on the clock and get a realistic idea for how long it can take.

Not sure if you'd like to hire a professional hair stylist and make-up artist to come to your dressing room or if you'd rather go to their salon before you get ready. Both are workable options but it depends on the travel distance between locations. Would you rather wake up in your hotel room and have everyone come to you or run errands the day of your wedding. If the hair salon you like is only a few blocks from where you are getting dressed it might be easier , faster and more affordable to go to them. Often you can have both your hair and make-up done at the same salon.

Having a realistic timeline will help to make everything flow smoothly on your wedding day.

For the Bride & Groom

Try to forget about the camera as much as possible. Don't purposely turn away from the photographer....but just let us blend into the background as much as possible.

Naturally, with all of the friends and family you'll be visiting the photographer ought not be a focus. After your wedding, when you're looking at the photographs from your day you'll enjoy the shots that capture true moments the most. Yes, of course some nicely composed photographs with people smiling at the camera are certainly nice but this does not mean you should turn and smile every time you see the photographer.

Be present on your wedding day and engage and enjoy all the people you see and love. As wedding photographers it's our job to follow the emotions and translate the love we see in your life. This is what you treasure and want to savor forever with memory and photographs.

For The Bride & Groom

Something to consider when planning your wedding day is the time of sunset on that day.

Light may not be top of your checklist when you're thinking about all the details of your wedding but it does make for beautiful photographs as it is furthest from directly overhead. Our favorite time to take posed photos of family or romantic couple photos of the two of you is from one hour before to one hour after sunset.

Depending on the size of your families and the number of posed photos you're having, one full hour is usually plenty to cover those important group pictures and romantic couple photos.

For The Bride & Groom & All Your Guests

Finding everyone a place to stay may seem overwhelming but it doesn't have to be. Whether you wedding is in Santa Barbara or Los Angeles or anyplace in-between there are several ways to plan lodging for your out-of-town family and friends. If you have a wedding website to share all the information with your guests, list a few vacation rentals along with hotels and let your guests choose what they like. If you don't already have a personal wedding website you could compile your own list of faavorite places to stay and e-mail it to your wedding guests.

If your wedding is at a large hotel they will often offer discount room rates for more than twenty room reservations. Having everyone at the same hotel can be a convienient arrangement.

But in addition to the large resorts there are several vacation rentals listed online at weekend or weekly rates. This is a great way for your out of town guests to feel at home in Santa Barbara and other costal communites. A vactaion rental for the week, sleeps more people and is often less expensive than a hotel room.

Santa Barbara offers vacation rentals that range from a simple guest cottage for two to an elaborate estate mansion that sleeps twenty or more people in total luxury.

For The Bride

Recycled dresses and diamonds are a great option to help keep things within a budget and in the family. If there's a dress in your family that is not exactly your size, and slightly dated in style take it to a bridal seamstress and you'll be amazed at the transformation. Similarly, if there's a diamond ring in your family that isn't your style, take it to a jewler and ask to use the diamond in a new ring tailored to your design specifications.

For The Wedding Guest

Certainly bring your cameras and take photos if you're inclined. Also be aware of the professional photographers at work, they will be documenting all the key stages of the ceremony and other important moments throughout the day.

You will be invited to view and order any of their photos that you like from the online photo service.

Time provided, we never mind taking group photos for people at the wedding, ask as you see appropriate but please also understand that the bride and groom and their photo wishes for the day are our primary focus.
